Making the Invisible: Visible

Description: Exhibit and workshops hosted by Claymore Vets in partnership with Frontline Arts and Bridgewater Commons.

In celebration of Women Veterans Day on June 12th, Making the Invisible: Visible raises the community’s awareness of local Women Veterans experiences, provides profound insight about their lives and honors their service with an inspiring exhibit featuring ten black and white portraits of Women Veterans created by Women Veteran Artists, creative workshops and a spoken word session. Women Veterans face unique barriers beyond those faced by their male counterparts, including mental health stigma and gender sensitivity issues, making them often “invisible” in their own communities. This program gives them a voice to share their stories.

To celebrate Women’s Veteran Day In NJ, Claymore Vets will host an exhibit opening reception with Guest of Honor retired SgtMaj Robin Fortnerwell, welcome remarks and a special offering for Woman Veterans with a complimentary personal photoshoot onsite with Marine Corps Veteran Shane Samuels.

Veterans Papermaking Workshop by Frontline Arts, 12pm – 2pm
Open to Veterans and Active-Duty Family Members only; RSVP required, register here.
Frontline Arts, a non-profit based in Branchburg, NJ that focuses on connecting and building communities through socially engaging arts practices rooted in papermaking and printmaking, introduces its Veterans Papermaking program in conjunction with Claymore Vets. Participants will be able to “pull a sheet” of paper from a vat of pulp made from military uniform and then make unique art on that freshly made sheet of paper. That paper will be returned to Frontline Arts to be pressed and dried. Arrangements will be made to return the artwork to each

Claymore Vets will be hosting a Live Painting Workshop from 6:30pm-8:30pm, free and will be open to all Veterans and their families.

Spoken Word Poetry by Women Veterans Empowered and Thriving, 3pm – 6pm

Claymore Vets to host a live poetry reading and a musical performance by Women Veteran Poets to close the exhibit’s residency.

Broadway at the Commons

Broadway at the Commons

Description: Bridgewater Commons in partnership with the American Theater Group (ATG) bring Broadway to the Commons! Join hundreds of fans and enjoy your favorite Broadway songs performed live on stage by members of the cast of ATG’s production of The Bridges of Madison County.  Also,  enjoy a special opening act by The Ridge Club from the Bernards Township School District, performing “Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats” from the famed musical Cats, with 17 original cast members from the Club ranging from freshmen to seniors.

ATG, Somerset County’s newest professional theater company, proudly presents a weekend of encore concerts of its critically acclaimed 2019 production of The Bridges of Madison County, live at the Pleasant Valley Park amphitheater in Basking Ridge. The free outdoor events, held on Friday and Saturday, June 25 and 26th at 8pm, will feature the entire cast of the original ATG production and the full Tony award-winning orchestration played by Broadway musicians.

Description: Hosted by The Center for Contemporary Art in partnership Bridgewater Commons, youth aged 9-15 can experience exciting a hands on art projects.

Workshop for children ages 9-11

Description: Decoupage Workshop
Choosing a box, vase, frame or other form, participants will collage the surface with a variety of materials. This is an opportunity to play with paper-using what you like to make something new!

Description: Watercolor Workshop
Join us for an introduction to painting with watercolor – a medium known for its glow and lightness. Spend time working with materials and methods that professional artists use to create their works of art. Wear suitable clothing for painting – watercolors will stain.

The Center for Contemporary Art is a vibrant regional art center with studio art classes, summer art camp, rotating exhibitions and community outreach programs. Art classes for children and adults are offered in painting, ceramics, pottery, drawing, pastels, photography and more. Exhibitions of contemporary art are presented in three galleries, as well as annual members’, international juried and youth art month exhibitions. Outreach programs bring art experiences to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, adults with disabilities, seniors, people affected by cancer, and at-risk youth.

Journey Back in Time: Rocks, Minerals and Dinosaurs!

Description: Hosted by The Children’s Museum in partnership Bridgewater Commons, Journey Back in Time is a program that introduces young children to our natural world, and the exciting history of fossils and dinosaurs. A variety of educational and enjoyable activities are provided to give youth and their parents an opportunity to learn about the program theme. This is not a drop-off experience; parents must stay with their children for the entire visit.

The Children’s Museum is a small hand-on all-volunteer museum based in Bridgewater, NJ. with most programs geared toward children ages 3 to 8 and their families. Activities are intended to provide educational value, promote creativity, provide a sense of wonder, and to provide parents and children the opportunity to interact as a family in an educational venue. About a dozen themed programs are produced each year.

Sign-up slots are available on a first come, first serve basis. Limited walk-ins available at the beginning of each hour on a first come first-served basis.

In partnership with The Pride Center of New Jersey, BWC unveiled Let the Love Flow, a large-scale art mural symbolizing acceptance and equality. Art Mural by Alli K
Location: Lower Level, near Macy’s
Description: Bridgewater Commons commissioned Dallas based artist Alli K to reimagine blank spaces and walls in the common area into inspiring art murals. From the underside of the escalators to common area ceilings, shoppers witnessed the creation of Alli’s art onsite. Additional pieces by Alli K will also be installed on the storefronts of the former Lord & Taylor entrances on all levels.

Alli Koch is the hands and heart behind Alli K Design. She has created a name for herself using her unique drawing style and staple black and white color palette. As a visual artist and illustrator, Alli is on a mission to inspire others to create beautiful things.
